In a Nutshell

Be part of the team that makes our Neilson Mountain Collection hotels feel like home for the winter.

Welcome guests, get to know them and help create the friendly, relaxed atmosphere that makes a ski holiday memorable.

Get stuck into all areas of hotel life - from breakfast and dinner service to housekeeping, the bar and everything in between.

Become someone our guests can turn to, whether they need a local recommendation, help with their holiday or simply a friendly face at the end of a day on the mountain.

Work hard as part of a close-knit team, make the most of life in the mountains and experience a winter season you won’t forget.

About Us

For almost 50 years, Neilson has been creating unforgettable active holidays in some incredible destinations.

During the winter, our Mountain Collection hotels put our guests right at the heart of some brilliant European ski resorts, combining days on the mountain with the relaxed, friendly hospitality Neilson is known for.

Our Hotel Hosts are a huge part of that.

We’re looking for enthusiastic, adaptable people with great personalities, a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for looking after people.

About You

You’re a natural host. Friendly, approachable and genuinely interested in people, you enjoy making others feel welcome and looked after.

You understand that great hospitality is often about the little things such as remembering a guest’s name, noticing when someone needs help, keeping things spotless or simply taking the time to ask how their day on the mountain went.

You’re also not afraid of hard work.

Hotel life is hands-on, and you’ll be happy moving between different parts of the operation throughout your day. One minute you could be serving breakfast, the next turning around a guest bedroom, helping behind the bar or getting ready for evening service.

You’re organised, dependable and comfortable following established processes, but you can also use your initiative when something needs doing.

When things get busy, you stay calm, keep smiling and work with the rest of the team to get the job done.

Most importantly, you understand that there’s no such thing as “not my job” when you’re part of a small hotel team.

Role Overview

As a Hotel Host, you’ll be at the heart of day-to-day life in one of our Neilson Mountain Collection hotels.

This is a varied hospitality role, and you’ll support different areas of the hotel depending on what’s happening that day.

You’ll help prepare and serve breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meals, provide table and bar service, keep guest bedrooms and public areas looking their best and make sure our guests receive brilliant service throughout their stay.

You’ll also be one of the familiar faces guests see throughout their holiday.

That means welcoming new arrivals, helping with luggage, answering questions, sharing your knowledge of the resort and generally doing whatever you can to make their holiday run smoothly.

There’ll be plenty happening behind the scenes too. You might help with ski fit, clear snow around the hotel or support airport transfers when required.

It’s a proper team role. Everyone gets involved, everyone helps each other out and everyone plays their part in creating a hotel our guests love coming back to.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver warm, friendly and professional guest service throughout the hotel.
  • Welcome guests and help them settle into their Neilson holiday.
  • Build relationships with guests and be available to answer questions or offer assistance throughout their stay.
  • Support breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meal service.
  • Help prepare and serve our three-course evening meals.
  • Deliver friendly and efficient table service.
  • Support bar service and confidently handle basic guest transactions.
  • Provide buffet and à la carte service while paying close attention to dietary requirements and allergies.
  • Help keep guest bedrooms clean, comfortable and ready to a high standard.
  • Maintain excellent cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout public areas and shared hotel spaces.
  • Work closely with the wider hotel team to keep daily operations running smoothly.
  • Assist guests with luggage on arrival and departure.
  • Support ski fit and other arrival-day activities where required.
  • Share your knowledge of the resort, local area and activities with guests.
  • Help clear snow and keep entrances and guest areas safe when required.
  • Support airport transfers and guest movements when needed.
  • Follow food hygiene, health and safety and hotel operating procedures.
  • Spot things that need doing and take action rather than waiting to be asked.
  • Help create the relaxed, social and welcoming atmosphere we want our hotels to be known for.
  • Be flexible and support other areas of the hotel whenever required.
  • Represent Neilson with energy, professionalism and enthusiasm both inside the hotel and around resort.

Skills & Experience

You’ll be great at this if you…

  • Have previous customer service experience.
  • Genuinely enjoy hospitality and looking after people.
  • Are friendly, outgoing and comfortable talking to different types of guests.
  • Have a positive, hands-on attitude and aren’t afraid of hard work.
  • Enjoy being part of a close-knit team.
  • Are happy working across different areas rather than sticking to one set job every day.
  • Can remain calm, organised and positive during busy services.
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can follow instructions confidently while also using your own initiative.
  • Notice the little details that make a difference to a guest’s experience.
  • Are reliable, punctual and someone your teammates can depend on.
  • Take pride in keeping your working environment clean, organised and presentable.
  • Are comfortable handling basic transactions and working with numbers.
  • Understand that seasonal hospitality can involve long, busy days and are ready to get stuck in.
  • Have a good standard of spoken and written English.

It’d be a bonus if you also have…

  • Previous experience within a hotel, chalet, restaurant, bar or similar hospitality environment.
  • Previous housekeeping or food and beverage experience.
  • Previous overseas or seasonal work experience.
  • Experience working within a ski resort or mountain environment.
  • Skiing or snowboarding experience.
  • Knowledge of European ski resorts or mountain holidays.
  • Additional European language skills.

What’s in it for you?

Joining Neilson is more than just a winter job. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself, develop new skills, live in an incredible mountain destination and become part of a close-knit team creating unforgettable holidays every week.

You’ll work hard – seasonal hotel life certainly isn’t a permanent ski holiday – but you’ll also have the chance to make the most of living in the mountains, meet brilliant people and create memories that stay with you long after the snow has melted.

Alongside the experience, you’ll get:

  • Shared staff accommodation, with no household bills to worry about.
  • Discounted seasonal lift passes, with payment plans available.
  • Meals while on duty.
  • Travel to and from resort within Europe, subject to our staff travel policy.
  • Visa and work permit support where applicable.
  • Comprehensive training, including pre-season e-learning.
  • Role-specific uniform provided.
  • Allocated days off throughout the season.
  • Friends and family holiday discounts.
  • 24/7 independent mental health support.
  • Staff discounts in Neilson-ran bars and spas.

And, of course, the chance to spend a winter living and working in one of Europe’s incredible ski destinations.

It’s a season that gives you far more than a payslip. You’ll come home with new skills, new friends, incredible memories and plenty of stories from life in the mountains.

Please note: All Neilson Active employees are required to complete a DBS check as part of our safer recruitment process.
